Pre Race Briefing

Pontypridd Roadents welcomes runners to the 2024 edition of the Reverse 10 race. Please take the time to read and fully understand the following guidance to make the race day enjoyable for everyone.

1. Car parking and Race HQ / Registration will be at Tredomen Park, Ystrad Mynach, Hengoed, Caerphilly, CF82 7PG, and will be signposted from the main roads leading in. Car park marshals will be in place from 08:00am to direct you. Please car share where possible.

2. Registration to collect race numbers will be open from 08:30am – 09:45am, please look for the signs and gazebo.

3. Race start is 10:00am prompt. Runners are encouraged to warm up away from the start/finish area. This is important due to the chip timing mat being activated before the start. Please be aware junior parkrun takes place on the opening 1 mile path section at 09:00am. It will be a mass start so please position yourselves accordingly. There will be a final briefing at 09:55am for any last minute changes before the start.

4. There will be 4 portable toilets situated near registration and the race start. Please bear in mind there may be queues so your patience would be appreciated.

5. There will be no secure bag drop so please leave valuables in your car or take them with you.

6. There will be one water station on the course, just after the halfway mark, with cups given out by marshals. There will be bottled water for each participant at the finish.

7. T Shirts will be given out at the end, please look for signs. You will receive the size requested on the entry form. Swaps in size may be available, subject to availability, after the race has ended.

8. Prize giving will take place at approximately 12:00 next to the registration area. Prizes will be given for the following – Top 3 M/F U23 M/F Senior M/SF M40/W35 M50/W45 M60/W55 M70/W65 Top team male and female, 3 to score

9. First aid cover is provided by Acute Medics at the start/finish with mobile cover if needed.

10. The route is the same one used since 2016 with a mixture of tarmac paths, gravel paths and rough stone path around Parc Penallta. Care must be taken on this section especially after rain as it can get muddy and slippy. Another section which can get muddy is the short section of trail around the halfway point by the lake in Taff Bargoed Park. Current weather forecast is overcast, a chance of some rain and 9 degrees.

11. Runners must run on the left hand side unless instructed to by a marshal. Please be aware of other path/park users like runners, cyclists, dog walkers and walkers. The nature of the course means you will be running against other runners coming towards you.

Have an enjoyable race and on behalf of Pontypridd Roadents good luck!

Rhodri Evans Race Director

Description

A 10 mile mixed terrain course through Parc Penallta, starting and finishing at Penallta House, Tredomen Park.
The course is undulating with one uphill/downhill section taking you up to Sultan the Pit Pony sculpture.

The race originally started and finished at Pontypridd R. F. C.’s Sardis Road ground. Due to a mix up with marshals the runners went the wrong way and run the course in reverse. So from then on the Reverse 10 was born. In keeping with tradition the races mile markers count down from 9 to 1 and not up.
