Training

Our training sessions are led by qualified Group Leaders (LiRFs) holding Welsh Athletics Licenses, ensuring professional guidance and safety standards throughout all activities.

Tuesday Evening Track Sessions

Location: Bryn Celynnog Comprehensive School, Beddau, CF38 2AE
Time: 6:45pm start (please arrive ready)
Format: Track-based speed training including intervals and tempo work

Session Focus

Our Tuesday sessions concentrate on track-based speed development, specifically designed to enhance both speed and aerobic capacity. Training targets paces ranging from 3K to half-marathon intensity levels.

Session Structure:

  • 20-45 minutes of structured interval training
  • Appropriate recovery periods between efforts
  • Pace-specific guidance based on individual ability levels
  • Race-equivalent pace recommendations provided during sessions

For personalised training guidance, committee members can connect you with our internal club coaches who offer comprehensive training support beyond club sessions.


Thursday Evening Group Runs

Location: Leisure for Life, Llys Cadwyn 1, Pontypridd, CF37 4TH
Time: 6:30pm start (please arrive ready)
Format: Group runs covering 5+ miles with varied terrain

Session Variety

  • Terrain Options: Road and trail routes (seasonal variations)
  • Alternative Sessions: Tempo runs in Ynysangharad Park
  • Summer Sessions: Often led by experienced club members

Please note: Meeting locations may occasionally change, particularly during summer months. Any variations will be clearly advertised in advance.


Getting Started

For New Participants:

  1. Email roadentmember@gmail.com to arrange taster sessions
  2. Complete the required disclaimer form
  3. Inform the run leader on arrival that you’re participating

Trial Period Policy

Following a recent committee review, we’ve implemented a structured trial system:

  • Maximum 6 sessions across a 3-week period
  • Membership requirement: After the trial period, continued participation requires club membership
  • No exceptions policy: This ensures fairness for all participants

Additional Runs

Pontypridd Park Run: Join us on Saturdays to meet club members who regularly marshal and participate in this community event.

Informal Training: Many members organise additional training sessions throughout the week, including weekend long runs.
